Course Reflective Narrative
The Span 395: Special Topics course focused on the culture, history and civilization of Peru. This was a one-time opportunity to learn about that genuine country of South America. In the spring of 2013, I decided to join this particular class in order to meet and additional requirement for the Literary and Culture knowledge of my MLO 4. The course drew upon both the literary and cultural aspects of the Major Learning Outcome. One aspect of the class focused on showing Peru from head to toe. We were able to learn about the different indigenous groups that live through the nations, to distinguish the social classes that are pertinent, and to know geographical features of the country. On the other hand, we were also able to analyze different readings, ranging from traditional folk tales to contemporary works of well-known Perubian authors such as Mario Vargas Llosa. The class engaged students in several discussions were we will discuss readings, we will point out our thoughts, and ask questions in order to understand and to get to know Peru with a dipper insight. This course was definitely a unique experience; discovering Peru through this class permitted me gain respect, curiosity and of course knowledge of the country in terms of literature and so many aspect that revolve around its culture. I will definitely love to see Peru with my own eyes and live what was shown to me by this course. It is definitely as one of my goals to be able to visit the country, in the mean time I plan to acknowledge it by sharing my understanding of its culture and literature.
