Course Reflective Narrative
The Span 316: Spanish Culture and Civilization course was definitely an interesting and new experience. Before taking this class I had no idea whatsoever of the primitive history of Spain. I chose this course as part of my requirements for MLO 4 (Literary and Cultural Knowledge), during the fall of 2012. The class focused more than all in the cultural aspect of my major learning outcome. Students were though the development of the Spanish history and civilization through art, geography, religion, sociology, etc. We were able to draw upon the cultural aspect that the Iberian Peninsula and what we know as modern Spain, fall upon. As part of the class, we were expected to engage in the discussions of readings and films in order to expand on our thoughts and to develop cultural criteria. Of everything I was able to learn, what struck the most was the development of the different cultural groups that exist up until today in Spain. It was definitely interesting to see the autonomy that each of these groups proclaims and how they classify themselves to be so different from one another. I will definitely like to conduct further research on these cultural groups such as the Catalanes, Vascos, and Gallegos. It is in my future plans to be able to travel through Spain and in that traveling (aside from the any reach I could conduct), I will love to personally experience and live the cultural differentiations that have survive through the progress of the Spanish civilization.
